Black and White and Tired all over

alternative text

So as back-lit-and-looking-contemplative-and-totally-deep-while-sitting-in-the-grass I look in this picture, I've really been bogged down with sickness and just mental exhaustion-- and it's not even been a full week of school yet! Oh, dear.

Gettin' Wild in Williamsburg

What's Lovely for Sunday, August 15, 2010:  Meeting a fellow Hoosier in the city that never sleeps, thanks to blogging. Oh, the possibilities.

[If you'd rather not see my touristy-y pictures of Brooklyn, skip on down to the jump break to see my outfit pics-- and a certain someone else's-- woah that sounded way creepier than I intended. I also finally got a Chictopia, so you could check that out if you want to, too!]

Yes it's true; I never thought I'd be there, but Lizzie and I took the hour-ish long subway ride to Brooklyn, more specifically to that mythical hipster haven they call Williamsburg. And besides seeing hipsters being eco-friendly on bikes, who else would I meet there, but...

What's Lovely for August 6, 2010: Sharing (and hearing) exciting news (!)

The best thing about exciting news is the anticipation. It bubbles and dwells inside of you, and you want to share it, but you don't want to be too selfish and ruin conversations and friendships by blurting it all over the place, so you keep it relatively on the downlow just so not to jinx it. But when the timing's just right-- to quote the great Emeril-- BAM! News-sharing accomplished.

And it seems like there isn't a shortage of exciting news popping up all over the blogosphere: Indiana was recently featured in Lucky magazine, Emily just made it official on her blog that she has a beautiful baby bump (go wish her congratulations!) and I'm going to be in New York.

I mean, what? Dammit, that bubble popped too soon. Bad Charlene, bad.

But yes, that's right! I've been meaning to share this for awhile, and I'm getting around to it just now. A week from today, I'll be heading over to the airport where I'll get into an airplane that'll transport me to visit my dear wonderful fantabulous friend LIZZIE for the weekend (too short! boo). She already has planned out a syllabus jam-packed with the stereotypically amazing NYC things like Coney Island and riding underground vehicles-- yet I still hope against hopes that I'll run into manymanymany bloggers there, too! If you'll be in the Bronx area (or wherever-- the whole city still confuses me, to be embarrassingly honest) from the 13-15, hit me up! But not literally, hitting me in NYC would be very painful and awkward. But I will allow raucously polite meet and greets. :)

RIP Cardigan

What's Lovely for August 5, 2010: Remembering an old friend from the wardrobe

This photograph is one of the last taken of my good friend. You've probably seen it before. Not many of you knew it by name, but I always fondly knew it as Red Butmorelikeredorange Cardigan (its middle name is of Swedish origin). I can still recall when and where I met it: a few summers ago at the Gap; not only was it on sale but it had a discount on account of a tiny hole in the back. Of course, it was love at first sight. Ever since then, Red B. Cardigan went almost everywhere I went. We were practically inseparable. No seriously, we were-- some of my favorite outfits with the cardigan are here, here, here, and last but not least, here on Pink.

In short, that cardigan was like a security blanket, only better. I mean, how many security blankets are bright red and are wearable? Suck on that,
Linus (and I don't mean your thumb).

Before I left Thailand, I bestowed Cardigan upon Pink to "remember me" in a Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants kind of way. Despite it being hot outside, she found excuses to wear it when the weather/AC got just a bit cooler. However, I was informed today that Cardigan disappeared under mysterious circumstances involving ill-timed misplacement (she accidentally dropped it somewhere). As far as I know, Cardigan now rests somewhere in a castle in Poland.

RIP Red B. Cardigan. You were a trusty and fantabulous friend that went with just about everything I owned. You will be missed. I just hope that no one's trying to wear you with lime green right now, then that would just be a piteous tragedy.

IT'S ALIIIIIIIIIIIVE!

IT'S.... IT'S.... ALIIIIIIIIIVE.

That's roughly the horridly relieving reaction I got when I finally connected to the internet after a grueling week (felt more like a month on Alcatraz) of having the world wide web unexpectedly cut off from my circulation. Note: though I have stepped back barely enough to realize that how sad it was to put my predicament in such dramatic terms ("omg i'm gunna dieeeee w/o teh internetz lolz"), it got to the point where I was downright bummed not having the internet at all. And when it came to my blog, I actually became... angry. It's very strange, but when I'm kept away from my blog against my will, I'm like the mama bear that claws the hunter to get to my baby. And baby, I've clawed plenty of hunters and tech support help lines to get it back. Not to mention a slight meltdown involving a little screaming and howling over a dud modem-- I never said I wasn't ashamed. But I got it back, and I'm happy. I have so much to share and so much to catch up on! Did y'all miss me? I know I missed you, you and you. Not you. OK fine, you too.

What's Lovely for August 4, 2010: Getting the glorious, sweet, beautiful internet back (duh)

Here's a little Youtube treat for you. This basically shows my relationship with the internet for the past week. I keep on demanding, it keeps on spitting in my face. This also is an accurate portrayal of my friendship with Grimsay, fun fact.
