What's Lovely for January 9, 2010: Dressing up for no reason at all. Determined not to make today a pajama day (the ultimate test of laziness), I decided to do something for my silly self. I took inspiration from the always eclectic and eccentrically-dressed Claudia Kishi from the classic Baby-Sitters Club book series to have an impromptu photo shoot. These are my juvenile attempts.
Yes, that's an American Girl magazine, straight from my garage and into this blog. It was the most 90s thing I had lying around.
Am I the only one who remembers the Baby-Sitters Club? I never collected the series, but I owned a few mysteries and one of the Little BSC books back in the day, and my pre-pubescent self enjoyed these very much. It's weird to think that there are people out there who have no idea about the painfully hip 80s-90s gang of Kristy, Mary Anne, Claudia, Stacey, etc. I feel like I should feel old.
Which is probably why the book series are going to get an update, along with a prequel-- and I can't lie, I'm a little excited (and I'm not the only one). And there are blogs that are dedicated the original: what claudia wore and BSC Headquarters are both blogs I've stumbled upon and am reading with more nostalgic joy than I should.
At this rate, I'm probably going to exploit my room for all its tiny worth.

I've always liked Claudia for a number of reasons: she was Asian-American (pretty much the only one), creatively artistic, and was a fashion icon in her own right. Plus, I liked her name; it could be shortened to Claud, and that was just cool.
Her outfits' descriptions were written in great detail, and for good reason: they were outrageous. Even I have to admit, I used to think that they were a bit out there. But you know what? I give her props for that cheesy thing called being herself. And dammit, she worked it, Stoneybrook style.
Anyone else have their own favorite member of the BSC?

This is both absolutely fabulous and hilarious. I love it. I liked Dawn the best. Easy-going, chilled out hippy with wavy hair (damn I've always wanted wavy hair so badly!).
Loving the blue leggings, they look ace. The bowler is so Claud, but you totally get away with it. You are outrageous(ly wonderful)!
x
So funny, i love charachter inspiration for outfits. I was a bit late for the BSC but I did read one of them. i remember Claudia had wide leg lavender pants and that that was just awesome. i have a feeling today will be a pjama day until I am forced to leave for work.

@ Jess: thank you so much!
You pulled Claudia off perfectly! She was my favorite of the characters, but dear Lord it has been ages.... I love the blue!
I loved the Baby-Sitter's Club! This is a great interpretation of Claudia Kishi! Love the blue!
Ahh! Baby Sitters Club! I loved Claudia...I always love the "artsy-ones".
Thanks everyone! I'm surprised the leggings are getting a lot of love. :)
Oh. My lord. BEST EVER.
Claudia was always my fave, hands down. I mean, I WAS her (am her, might be more accurate, haha), but I've always been absurdly in love with her at the same time. She and Punky Brewster are still my fashion influences. <3
this is fabulous and that is all i have to say.
