Alive Again! The Original Snooki (part II)

alternative text
No, don't fix your televisions, the color's intentionally this way. I had no idea why my outfit came out looking ultramarine blue rather than purple, so I fiddled with the colors so the photos looked "vintage." Strangely enough, the purple is truer in these manipulated versions.

What's Lovely for Saturday, April 10, 2010: Scoring two little vintage treasures at a garage sales. What's lovely in general is that while the weather's getting warmer, it's getting to be garage sale season.

It's unfortunate that both of my Olive-inspired outfits were both purple. But what can I say, I'm short on cleavage-baring wrap dresses with fun patterns and cute waitress dresses, so I made do.

Thank God these photos were salvaged before the untimely fall of my camera. They're long overdue, these were taken this past Thursday (yipe!). So enough yappin', more pictures.

This is a complete posed shot because a) I couldn't really smell that flower and b) I never look this sweet not sniffing a flower. Oh, how the lies are REVEALED.
alternative text
For lack of better judgment, I'm putting this completely unflattering photo of me online just 'cause the outfit and tree look nice. Oi.
alternative text
Again, can I even really smell that flower? Not really. Oh, and I don't have deformed ribbed legs, I'm wearing socks underneath.

The worst part about that picture right above is that Pink kept on telling me to skip-dee-lou back and forth, which I promptly did so while thinking she didn't get the picture, only to find out that she HAD awhile ago but just wanted to see me stupidly skip-dee-lou. That treacherous wench.

Emerson thinks that's funny too, that cad.

And now, ladies and gentlegerms, my best Olive impression!

Thank God I didn't fall off. I didn't have a cushy carpet to fall on, only the cushy brick and stone. Potential owie.

What's Lovely for April 11, 2010: Eating homemade kimbab for dinner.

Yeah these are pretty, but I bet these aren't as good as Mom's recipe. Isn't it always like that? "No, MY mom's kimbab is better than YOUR mom's recipe." I'm sure everyone's like that.

R.I.P. Camera o' Mine

AHHHHHHHHHHH

That's close to my initial reaction when I found out that my camera broke. And that I haven't updated my blog in what seems forever (note: three days). But can we get back to the camera breaking? My livelihood, murdered cruelly in an accidental fall?? Oh why, camera, why? We've been through so many good times together.

Yes, that's me about four years ago. In a bathroom. With a camera. BUT IT'S NOT A MYSPACE SHOT, I SWEAR.

Also, I'd like to thank you all so much for your awesome comments, truly I smile every time I get one. :) (see? Emoticon smiley) However, my weekend shall be bogged down by work work stress and more work, so I'm warning that blogging may be scarce. Or at least there'll be little words. Which will probably be a relief for everyone.

Anyway, I'm going to present each post-What's Lovely with a clip/song arbitrarily attached.

What's Lovely for Wednesday April 7, 2010: Running into someone you haven't seen since high school, and they say "wow, you look really different from high school." I'm going to consider that a compliment, one of the very few bright spots of that awful day.

This. Is. My. Life. Story.

What's Lovely for Thursday April 8, 2010: Laughing at a joke that may not be that funny until your sides are sore-- even though you're mostly giggling because you're just that tired.

Kristin Chenoweth, you are a wooshing tornado of a delightful personality and diva-tastically wonderful voice all wrapped up in a tiny thing. LIKE WOAH.

What's Lovely for today April 9, 2010: Having class outside on the sunny grass. Seriously, I don't think that this happened since high school!

I've just been in a Vampire Weekend mood today, not to sound hipster-pretentious. But with this sun and well-- being on campus-- this song was just perfect for today. I did in fact, wear a keffiyah-style scarf and sleep on the balcony after class. Next thing you know I'm going to give a fuck about oxford comma.

Second Olive Snook post coming up soon, I really really hope! Happy (vampire, hawhaw) weekend, everybody! Have fun for me while I hole myself up in a basement somewhere.

Alive Again! The original Snooki (part I)

alternative text

I can't lie: I almost didn't post today because I spun myself into a fine tizzy of a low, low, LOW mood. I'm usually a pretty chipper person who prefers a laugh over a frown, but sometimes I find myself in such a dark place that I just want to wallow in the worst way possible. And posting these beautifully flowery pictures would've been a lie.

But as it goes for me, time changes a lot of things, especially perspective. Perspective is key to keeping your head above the water, and I doggy-paddled in the most pathetic way to the surface. Trite metaphors aside, just as I can periodically go under, I can never stay there for long. Friends are just too funny sometimes.

So! Continuing on the original plan, here's the second week of the third installment of the Alive Again! wardrobe project, brought to you by Pushing Daisies. Whew. I really should've rethought the name for this thing.

This week's inspiration is:

Olive Snook! Say hello, Olive! OK, don't say hello that snarky, we're not Chuck.

What I noticed about Olive's style is that despite her name, she doesn't always wear green. In fact, I'd say that she wears a lot of pinks and purples (even a little red) when she's not wearing her work uniform. She takes advantage of her figure with halter dresses and showin' alotta leg. Her make-up of pink lips and thin eyeliner is equally as feminine.

If not the carbon copy, I hoped that this outfit had an Olive feel to it. I mean, it couldn't be exactly the same down to the t. God knows that we're complete polar opposites when it comes to body shape. Note: Kristin Chenoweth has impressive boobage; I have less than impressive boobage. The woman is clearly more well versed in the art of heels as well.

alternative text
Please excuse the weird "I'm trying to be a model but it's sorely not working" face. I still don't know what to DO with my face in photos.

Sometimes that red's on her head (ah-ha! rhyme).

Never is Olive seen in anything lower than 3-inch heels, especially of the nude-colored variety. How she does it on a daily basis, I will never know.

I have to admit: these pictures are a bit of a lie because I totally wimped out and changed into flats later in the day. Forget boot camp, how the hell can one survive in HEELS camp??

What's Lovely for April 6, 2010: Remember yesterday when I talked about smelling spring flowers? Well today when I was walking around campus, I saw so many explosions and clusters of blooming flowers that I would gawk at each pretty tree I passed by. I wanted to reach up and bury myself in their sweetness until I wouldn't know what to do with myself.

And what Olive Snook post would be complete without a song?

This is the song that helped me get through my dark mood, just as it did for Vivian. :) Oh how cheesy I am. If you want to help the cheese, listen to the whole song HERE.

If this outfit looks strangely familiar to any of you, you've probably been over at Lucy Marmalade's blog. Partly on accident and partly on purpose (accidentally on purpose? yay oxymorons), I guess I look like part of the exclusive gang now.

Ms. Marmalade, consider this my formal application.

What's Lovely for April 5, 2010: Smelling hyacinths in the evening air heavy with possible rain.

It's always awesome to have a companion with you to take pictures. Especially in a shady alleyway.

Happy Easter, everyone! And for those who don't celebrate Easter save for some good ol' egg hunting (I never really hunted for any eggs when I was little, I feel like I'm missing out! So I hope you had extra fun for me), then happy lazy Sunday! Like yesterday, I'm a day behind, but I'm sure to catch up by the beginning of this hectic week. Here's a glimpse of my yesterday in a series of photographs.

Kiss of Color and Name Tags

alternative text

Friday night was a blissfully unbelievably summery day. It was gorgeous and I even walked around sleeveless.

What's Lovely for Friday, April 2, 2010: The sensation of a cool breeze sweeping around your summer dress that's fluttering and rippling lightly around your legs.

Too bad my computer wasn't just as wonderful that day. Which is the honest and crappy excuse I have for not updating yesterday. So suspend some disbelief and pretend that I'm Doc Brown and you're Marty McFly and we're going BACK TO THE FUTURE. Though we'd actually be going to the... past. And... this is the second Back to the Future reference I made on this blog. Geez.

Yes, these were taken next to a parking lot. But the cars totally add to the wistfulness, right. RIGHT??

Dress- B.Wear! : Pearls- vintage : Sandals- TJMaxx : Cardigan- Gap

I wore this dress in celebration of the weather, but I couldn't help but remember that I got my dress on the day of my high school graduation ceremony. Back then, I didn't really have any nice dresses-- or any, for that matter-- so my mom and I went to the mall right beforehand to buy one. I recently was looking through my album of photos from that day, and I noticed two things. One, a lot of these pictures were very blurry. Two, I can't believe how much can change in just a few years when I could still recall what happened, who I took pictures with, how I felt then. Plus, how egregious I looked back then. Yipe.

But yeah. Isn't it funny how there's a certain story behind some clothing you wear?

I felt like this song perfectly captured the feeling of the bright sunshine and colorfulness of that day. I dunno. It's deep, ok?? Plus I love any guy who can dance like that.

Stephen Colbert is watching, and he approves.

Friday night brought on harmlessly fun shenanigans. Remember the post-it bandit caper I did with my friend Joey before? You remember Joey? Of course you do. Well, the Sticky Bandits (I think that's our unofficial name now) have struck again!!

This time around we used "Hello, my name is" stickers, which was a great improvement over the post-it notes, only because they're substantially stickier. Plus, it wasn't minus ten thousand degrees outside so it was much easier to walk around and nonchalantly "improve" public settings.

We kinda had to do the "Hello, my name is Inigo Montoya." It's a deemed classic.
Do you guys have any ideas what we should do next? I'd love to hear your suggestions!

What's Lovely for Saturday, April 3, 2010: Sitting in the car with your friend, your favorite music blasting louder and louder, swelling into this tumultuous crescendo and you're singing along with wild abandon, the road is all dark, the lights are lit. Then you sit there and both of you don't say a thing. It's all perfect.

Then you and your friend re-enact a scene from "Telephone." It all becomes more perfect.

Fool me once, Fool me twice

alternative text

My school newspaper took full advantage of this joyous occasion by swingin' it Onion-style (we only had 2 pages of "real news" in the whole 14-page issue). I even got one person with my OMGOSH I CAN'T BELIEVE SNOOKI WAS ON CAMPUS status on Facebook (oh what delightful horrors were that be true). So while I didn't make a single "hey I'm preggers PSYCH" joke today, I'd like to think that this year's 4/1 was a rousing success.

And here's where my narrative stops. April Fools, I seem to have lost all energy to talk-- or think, for that matter. It's been a long week, and my brain is telling me that today's Friday.
